Ariel Pink is the first artist, we share with you, to perform at ⅩⅩⅣ Ars Cameralis Festival! His concert will take place on November 16, 2015 in Jazz Club Hipnoza in Katowice.
Ariel Pink (birth name Ariel Marcus Rosenberg) was twenty and something years old when he started to record albums, using Yamaha reel-to-reel tape recorder. He played all instruments, and he used parts of his body (mouth or knees) as a drum set. Opus magnum — series Haunted Graffiti — was meant to consist of 10 records. Unfortunately, in 2004 his tape recorder broke down, so Ariel abandoned the project after 8 records. Maybe luckly, because one of them got to guys from Animal Collective, who were starting their own label — Paw Tracks — and they invited Ariel to participate.
It didn’t take long, when Ariel from an eccentric, recording love ballads and living in a rented room on the suburbs of LA, became an author of "Round and Round” an anthem of indie rock. An unordinary indie rock because — as one of reviewers described — Ariel was inspired by good radio hits from the 60’s, shampoo commercials from the 80’s and soap operas from the 90’s. Since 2005 Ariel has performed with a professional band Haunted Graffiti, but you could still hear in his music the lo-fi style, recently with a little chillout tone. He fussily switches styles also in the textual layer: sometimes funny, sometimes dreamy, and sometimes gloomy. His latest album Pom pom was a huge success at prestigious music portals like Pitchfork or NME.
Jake Name, with his new album Weird Moons recorded together with Thee Oh Sees, will perform before Ariel Pink’s concert.
