The book, published by słowo/obraz terytoria, was accompanying an exhibition of Hans Bellmer’s works „Around a Doll” during Ⅴ Ars Cameralis Festival.
Hans Bellmer was one of the most extraordinary artists of the ⅩⅩ century. At the same time — at least till recently — his dark and fascinating output was known only to a relatively narrow group of insiders.
The publication is first in Poland, broad and original summary of creation of Hans Bellmer, a draftsman, painter and writer, born in 1902 in Katowice. The book was published by a valued publishing house słowo/ obraz terytoria and Fundacja Galerii Foksal, after an exhibition held in 1996 in Katowice by Cultural Institution Ars Cameralis.
"The exhibition <Hans Bellmer (Katowice 1902 — Paris 1975)> was held from November 30, 1996 to January 24, 1997 in Silesian Museum in Katowice. It was organized and financed by Ⅴ Ars Cameralis Festival. Illustrations in the book are mostly reproductions of Bellmer's works shown at the exhibition. Both, the exhibition and the publication would never exist, if not for kindness of many people, who share our fascination of character and works of Bellmer. To all of them we send heartfelt thanks."
