Ars Cameralis Silesiae Superioris

Carole Benzaken: At any moment, for coming and going

30.10.2015 — 6.12.2015 | BWA Contemporary Art Gallery in Katowice

An exhibition during  ⅩⅩⅣ Ars Cameralis Festival 2015.

At any moment, for coming and going (A chaque instant, à l`arrivée et au départ) — is the title of an exhibition of a French artist Carole Benzaken, which will take place at BWA Contemporary Art Gallery in Katowice during ⅩⅩⅣ Ars Cameralis FestivalClaire Stoullig will be the curator of the exhibition.

For over twenty years, Carole Benzaken has expanded in her creativeness the threads of clarity, depth and light. Today she starts an artistic dialogue with architecture. Her proposition is an attempt of fitting into the narrative about Silesia and its heritage, seen and interpreted from a different cultural space.

Between October 29 and December 6, at the BWA Contemporary Art Gallery in Katowice will be shown a cycle of works reflecting Benzaken’s journeys since the 90’s. The word „journey” is fully justifiable, because the artist through a variety of different mediums (from painting, by laminated glass  up to video art) paces bounderies between painting and decorative arts, aptly connecting diverse codes of images and ways of their perception.

For the first time in Poland, within the exhibition will be presented an instalation consisting of 15 luminous tables Saviv, saviv. The instalation, developed especially for the Silesian exhibition, refers to the biblical vision of the Valley of Dry Bones from Book of Ezekiel (37:1 — 4). Ezekiel’s text revealed to the artist obviousness of the title Saviv, saviv  as a figuration of pulsatory light poured into viscera of Polish ground. Thus, the work reaches its destination.

A solid of coal, a specific geological sample of the regions — Lorraine and Silesia — connects in a wide context two different worlds, Africa and Europe. The exhibition, taking place in this particular configuration — in various places and time — "At any moment, for coming and going”, forces us to face the history of the region, the work itself and our lives.
